Hail Hydra!
Some of you will only really know me as Red Skull, but I will share more detailed intel in this debrief!
So as my username shows, I'm Andy Turner (the UK bit is a legacy from other forum registrations many years ago when the basic name was already taken by others, I've kinda run with it ever since).
I found out about the Dragon Order ar the Wales (Wrexham) Comicon this year, I was skulking (pun intended) in the queues to gain entry when I was approached by (amongst others), a guard from Blakes 7... this just happened to impress me because, as a kid, two of my fave shows were Space 1999 and Blakes 7.
You guys were kind enough to chat with me during that day, complimenting my cosplay outfit, and I expressed an interest in becoming active within "The Order" as a result. So here I am...!
I'm a late starter to cosplay, only been doing it a couple of years. My first cosplay was of Booker DeWitt, from a game called Bioshock Infinite. I created the vast majority of that costume and props myself (including the gun and holster). I also made my partner's outfit, which is for Booker's daughter, Liz.
My next cosplay creation was a very simple one, for my partner's Uni project based on the John Carpenter film "They Live". I didn't create much for this, it was really a case of buy the mask and a suit, the project was more about shooting the photos on location and editing them with Photoshop to have the same feel as the movie. So I don't really class it as a "proper" cosplay myself, but it's part of the portfolio anyway.
My most successful cosplay by far is obviously Red Skull. I aimed to recreate the old-school comic book version, rather than the movie version that was released recently. This was mainly a mix of sourcing uniform parts and props, and putting it all together, along with creating a Tesseract. I also created my partner's matching cosplay for Red Skull's daughter, Sinthea Schmidt. This was a challenge as technically the notorious black uniform designed by Hugo Boss didn't have a female equivalent, so I used a bit of creative licence for it, keeping the shape and details still historically accurate, and I'm very happy with it.
My latest cosplay was done mainly for Halloween this year, but I will wear it more at Cons during 2017... the Silent Hill nurse. For this particular cosplay, I really wanted to challenge myself and my skills, by doing a "crossplay" (the term for opposite gender cosplay). I created the outfit and props, and learned new weathering techniques, along with using realistic gel bloods. I considered it to be a success as very few people guessed I was male (apparently the hands gave it away!) and people were genuinely frightened when both myself and my female friend (whose costume I also made) were hiding in alleyways surprising passers by during Halloween evening.
I currenty run separate pages on Facebook for each of these 4 cosplays, I'll list the links here if anyone would like to look further into them.
I do have a small list of other cosplays I'd like to build during 2017, but at the moment I'm loving the fun I'm having with Red Skull... who says the "bad guys" can't win!
